Advancement & the Endgame
Level 101 is Hero, or Legend in v3.1. Further experience trains Focus instead of your character level; stances, colour magic, and class meters keep improving through use.
Focus: levels after levels
At 101, experience pours into your chosen Focus track instead of your level. Pick one withtrain at a class trainer, then watch it with focus:
- ROT 1.5b1 & Distorted Illusions: seven tracks cover physical and magical offense, defense, agility, toughness, and ability. Each one improves the matching combat stats as it climbs.
- v3.1: eight tracks (adding Magic Resonance), with real teeth: a Focus level costs 25,000 xp, each next one 10% more, compounding. Every tier-3 class has primary/secondary/tertiary affinities over the tracks, and your combined Focus grants bonus levels above 101 that gate endgame equipment.
- v3.1 gives areas their own enemy tiers. Killing above your tier multiplies experience, so the best rewards come from risking the deepest zones on the map.
Stances: ten animals, mastered by doing
Ten fighting stances train from 0 to 200 through use. The five basics are bull (aggression),viper (speed), crab (defense), crane (counters), andmongoose (evasion). Mastering pairs of basics unlocks five advanced stances:tiger, mantis, dragon, monkey, swallow. Warrior-line classes get double value from bull, thief-line from viper. In v3.1, stance mastery survives rerolls and full mastery of all ten is an achievement.
Colour magic: six schools
Every spell in the game carries a colour. White covers healing and protection,Red covers combat, and Blue covers detection, transport, and creation.Green (enhancement and enchantment), Black (the dark arts),Orange (illusion and benediction). Casting raises your mastery of that colour toward 200 (learned shows the ledger). Like stances, colour mastery persists across rerolls in v3.1.
Class meters
- Toughness: warrior-line characters train this 0–500 damage reduction stat through combat.
- Highland Power: a highlander's PK rating fuels quickening. The better your place on the ladder, the more power you have to spend.
- Chi: monks build offensive and defensive chi for their unarmed arts. Ninjas use a related resource called michi.
- Weapon mastery: in v3.1, reaching 100% with a weapon lets you
handleit at a trainer and unlock its advanced form.
Achievements (v3.1 only)
The achievements command tracks kills, quests, casts, backstabs, potions quaffed, bank balance, hours played, and stranger things. Each milestone pays experience. A few examples are I Am Legend(reach tier 3, level 101),NPC GENOCIDE!! (100,000 kills), A sure thing (500 arena wins), Antisocial(your first player kill), and a 10,000-platinum banking milestone on the way to one million.
